​Toddlers:

SJB Child Development Centers provides infant/ toddler care program in three of our centers. We follow the Program for Infant Toddler Care (PITC) group care approach and adhere to its philosophy. The program requires well trained teachers to get “in tune” with each infant they serve and learn from the individual infant what he or she needs, thinks and feels. SJB knows that infant/toddler care is about relationship planning emphasizing child-directed learning. The two main components of our infant/toddler care program are:

Safe Environments:

SJB views the setting for infant/toddler care as critical. Our teachers design environments that ensure safety, offer infants and toddlers appropriate developmental challenges and promotes optimum health for children.

Strengthening Emotional Connections:

An equally important program component is the strengthening of a child’s developing family and cultural identity by making meaningful connections between the program and the child’s family and culture. The goal of the program is to encourage teachers to provide tender, loving care while assisting in the infant/toddlers intellectual development through an attentive reading of each child’s cues. By becoming attentive to these cues, teachers connect with the infant/toddlers and their families to develop responsive, relationship-based care. Through PITC trainings, teachers reflect on and record information about the children’s interests and skills, and search for ways to set the stage for the child’s next learning encounters. SJB adheres to small group ratios so as to facilitate the provision of personalized care that infants and toddlers need. PITC recommends and SJB adheres to 1:3 adult/child ratio for infants and 1:4 adult/child ratio for toddlers. It must be noted that infant/toddler care teachers team up and support each other and provide a back-up base for security. In line with PITC’s philosophy, SJB follows children’s unique rhythms and styles promoting well-being and a healthy sense of self. The program adapts to the child and the child gets the message that he or she is important, that her/his needs will be met, and that his choices, preferences and impulses are respected.
